Love Thy Enemy...
First Congregational Church of Milton, UCC, has been welcoming a lot of diversity lately, sharing their space with Temple Shalom and also the Good Shepherd Evangelical Baptist Church. But Rev. Jeff Johnson, pastor of the church, got caught by surprise when it came time for the offering on February 5th, Super Bowl Sunday. Johnson states:
“We generally have two ushers pass the plates during the offering, and we were one short. Jeff Nutting was wearing his bright red Patriots jersey, and got a flash—why not recruit Paul Jordan to pair up with him. Paul ‘just happened’ to be wearing his bright blue New York Giants jersey. They made quite a pair as they came down the aisle. We all had to laugh at how we bring all that we are to worship, even our sports-teams loyalties.
But in another vein, we live with theological differences and political disagreements, but there is nothing quite like a sports rivalry to raise the blood pressure. We think this picture says a lot about our tolerance for diversity. As our denominational slogan says, 'No matter who you are, no matter where you've been on life's journey, (and no matter who you root for), you are welcome here!’”

In case you hadn’t heard, Nancy Hezlitt has moved back to Milton from Quincy. Some of the guys in the Men’s Group got together on Monday, Jan. 2nd, unl
oaded her Quincy apartment and delivered the goods to her new place—all in one morning.
Nancy was very pleased, and so were the guys (she provided yummy pastries…)!
