Welcome to the First Congregational Church of Milton, a member of the United Church of Christ! While we come from a variety of theological backgrounds and traditions, we are brought together as we seek to follow Jesus Christ and serve others. We invite you to join with us on this journey of faith.
When you enter First Congregational Church, you can expect to be warmly welcomed by members of our church family acting as greeters. You will be offered a nametag and, if you are a first-time visitor with us, an informational welcoming package.
If you have children interested in participating in the Sunday School class, you may wish to arrive a little early and explore the classrooms located in the school adjoining the back of the church. Sunday School participants gather in their classrooms before the service then come together to the beginning of the service, sit together in the front pews, and stay in church through the children's message. They are then dismissed to their classes. You are also welcome to keep your children with you throughout the full service. A nursery room staffed by at least one adult and some of the teens is also available for infants and toddlers. If you bring an infant or toddler to the nursery, please make sure his or her name is on all belongings.
During the first Sunday of each month, we celebrate Holy Communion. Communion is served in the pews, with members of the Diaconate serving the congregation. The communion service differs slightly from the regular service in that there is not usually a children's message, therefore the children in Sunday School classes (under second grade) do not participate in the service at all.
During all of the services, you can expect to sing a few traditional hymns and hear wonderful music from our classically trained director, soloists, and choir (which is always seeking new members).
At the closing of the service, you are welcome to join in the fellowship hour in our Great Hall. This is a time to get a cup of coffee or juice, have a snack and talk casually with one another. You can expect to find a friendly, positively-charged atmosphere, buzzing with talk of current social, political, and church-related events. You can also expect to see many small children playing together and having a great time. |
